Throughout this course you have learned about the importance of research in counseling and how evidence-based research can inform how counselors practice. This assignment will help you develop the skill of interpreting data and writing results based upon your research findings.

Instructions

Please navigate to the Benchmark Quantitative or Qualitative Research Reporting Template and follow the steps to complete the assignment. Within this document, there are two case scenarios that detail a summary of the study, purpose, research question, hypothesis (for only the quantitative case), study design, data, method of analysis of the data, and the results. You will address the questions based upon which path you choose, and you will write one well-developed paragraph that has a logical flow using current APA format.

Step 1: Understand the Assignment

  • Your task is to choose one of the two provided case scenarios (quantitative or qualitative).

  • Do not use your previously approved topic.

  • You will write one paragraph that explains the study’s findings clearly and logically, following APA style.

Step 2: Review the Case Scenario

  • Read the scenario carefully.

  • Identify key details:

    • Study summary

    • Purpose of the research

    • Research question(s)

    • Hypothesis (only for quantitative)

    • Study design

    • Data collected

    • Method of analysis

    • Results

Step 3: Draft Your Paragraph

  • Begin with the purpose and research question.

  • Summarize the design and method of analysis briefly.

  • Clearly state the results/findings.

  • End with a sentence that shows the significance of the results for counseling practice.

  • Ensure your paragraph flows logically without bullet points—this is a formal APA paragraph.

Step 4: Format in APA Style

  • Use Times New Roman, 12-point font, double spacing, and 1-inch margins.

  • Indent the first line of your paragraph.

  • Add a title page if required by your instructor.

Step 5: Stay Within Length

  • Keep your paper 1–2 pages maximum.

  • The main paragraph should be concise but thorough.

Step 6: Use the APA Manual & Examples

  • Refer to Section 3 of the APA Manual for Journal Article Reporting Standards.

Step 7: Review & Submit
